- What has happened to the Independent Thematic Review of Maternity Services at Nottingham University Hospitals?
Sir David Sloman, Chief Operating Officer for NHS England and NHS Improvement made the decision to conclude the Independent Thematic Review of Maternity Services at Nottingham University Hospitals from 10 June 2022. Donna Ockenden has been appointed as the chair of a new review.
- When will the new review start?
It is understood that the new review will begin by early autumn 2022. An exact date will be confirmed in due course.

- What will the new review involve?
The new chair, Donna Ockenden, will be writing to families and other stakeholders to explain more about the new review in the coming weeks.
- Have all the members of the review team now stepped down?
The review team has now concluded their work. As an interim arrangement, all data and information is being managed securely by a small dedicated team.
- Will I automatically become part of the next review? Will my contact details be passed on to the new review team?
No one will automatically be part of the new review. Any involvement will be part of an informed consent process led by the new team.

- What is ‘informed consent’?
‘Informed consent’ is where an individual understands the reason for sharing information about them or attributable to them and gives permission for this to happen.
- I took part in a family listening session and was assured the notes taken would be confidential. What happens to the notes that were taken from this and how can you assure me that everything I said will remain confidential?
The notes taken from listening sessions are retained on a secure portal with named access only. They can only be shared with informed consent, which the new review team will likely seek in due course once the new review is set up.
- Will I have to repeat my story again to the new review team?
More information on the next steps and decisions Donna Ockenden will be taking as chair of the new review will be shared with families as it gets underway.
- Can I still access the counselling service that was set up for families?
Yes. All families who contacted the review are still able to access specialist, confidential psychological support by calling 0115 200 1000 or emailing fpss@trentpts.co.uk.
- I don’t want to be part of the next review. How can I opt out?
No one will be included in the new review without their express permission. Once the new review is in place, the process for opting out will be published
- I have questions for the new review team, how do I get in touch with them?
